About Church of the Assumption

Safeguarding Ossory

The Diocese of Ossory values and encourages the participation of children in the life of the Church, and is committed to best practice, which protects children from harm and abuse.

The Parish of Thomastown also values and encourages the participation of children and young people in parish liturgies and activities that enhance their spiritual, physical, emotional, social and intellectual development, and will work in a partnership way with parents at all times.

This duty of care extends to all the many and varied ways that children share in the life of the Church in our parish and dioceses.

To further this, Mel Bay and Aideen Comerford have accepted to be Parish Representatives, to promote the safeguarding of children within Church organisations. They will raise awareness of what safeguarding is through facilitating information sessions, disseminating information, specially to Church based organisations, ensure that any parish related activities are provided for in a manner that ensures the safety and wellbeing of the children involved, ensuring that contact details of the Designated Officers are widely publicised, and facilitate anyone who needs to make a complaint and/or requires pastoral care by ensuring that contact information is made known within the parish.

If you have a child safeguarding concern or wish to raise a matter from the past you may also contact any of the following in the dioceses:
